demonoid.com is currently down. their page displays the following message:

we had a system problem which will force us to restore everything from backup.
the disks are pretty much empty right now and until we are able to upload the
backup and set up everything up, we have to close down.

we'll be back as soon as possible. sorry for the inconvenience.

we were planning on returning online in the next few hours - probably tomorrow
afternoon. but due some recent events, and following the advice of a lot of
you, we will make a few more changes that might take a few days longer. as
always, thanks for you continued support and patience. for the ones wondering,
the timing of the downtime was coincidental.

they don't allow dht with their trackers....which i
think they desperately need to change.
that would rather defeat the
point of it being a ratio/registration driven `private` site, no ?

the problems with demonoid are probably more related to leagal issues.

their isp, leaseweb in the netherlands, lost a preliminary injunction for a
different torrent site (everlasting). and now brein, the dutch version of mpaa,
says that they will start a second case against the isp regarding demonoid.
therefore i think demonoid is down for e.g. cleaning up log files and/or moving
their site to a different isp/country.

there's a bit of a public relations tug of war currently going on between brein
and demonoid. brein is a dutch copyright protection firm who's made a name for

actually you can do that. there are many torrents posted on
mininova using the
demonoid tracker. i've also uploaded several torrents from demonoid to mininova
myself for some people here.

i think brand new torrents are open to the public but searching the site and the
older torrents still do not allow just anyone to use them.

correct but unregistered users are limited to 3 \"new\" torrents per week.

the main problem with demonoid is that they regulate the content of there site
(no porn, etc.) which means that they must view all of the torrents, therefore
they cannot claim ingnorance that copyrighted material is being shared, cause
they must phsycially monitor it. the pirate bay, for example, does not
regulate its content, so it is easier for them to say we do not do promote
piracy because whe do not censor torrent content nor is it our job to police
what is being shared. the web hosting companies can make the same arguement,
allthough as a business move it would be advisable for them to remove any
website the promote or may look as though it promotes an illegal activity.

that's not true, they do not allow porn on demonoid, but they have a report
button for some users (i think i got it after i uploaded a certain amount or had
been a member for a certain amount of time, not really sure, one day it just
showed up) so they don't monitor each torrent before it goes up.

i mean, even mininova does not allow porn, and that seems pretty free and open
and unregulated too. (and yes i know the difference between a tracker and a
torrent listing site)

go ask them yourself the forums are up.
demonoid users are using another well known but open tracker while demonoids down.
the uploads aren't hard to find. but it looks like its not handling it very well
as it goes down a few times.
so just use dht again.

there was a delay with our new hardware that pushes the site return for
wednesday.
the forums are now back online though.

i didn't even realise the site was down, i only use it for 1 or 2 shows that
aren't on here, and they are on breaks/ended. good info in this thread though,
thanks.
