well some of the 'flak' is hard to avoid when they're trying to pull a veil
over the viewers eyes. i understand where you're coming from though. as i've
stated before i also love both shows, i just have a preference.
as far as using a flint to make fire, i wouldn't call it cheating either. i
plan on having something similar to his next time i go out hiking, just in
case.

i always had a sneaking suspicion parts of the show weren't a 100% "hardcore".
but i don't care, it's entertainment, and at least the most essential parts of
his journey are "real".

i love how all the reality tv loving goofballs get so familiar when making
reference to someone they've never met. they're somehow on a first name basis,
sometimes on a nickname basis, with the actors and actresses in the shows,
people they will never meet.
it's psychologically interesting while at the same time intellectually numbing.

don't forget that there are people who have to be explicitly told not to dry

if the shows didn't misrepresent themselves (also called lying through their
teeth) they might be tolerable. as it is they pass themselves off as reality
when they're utterly faked, so any flak they get is well deserved.
