the lease on josh, aidan, and sally's apartment has been extended! syfy today renewed being human for a third season, promising 13 new episodes in (probably) 2013. the supernatural series is currently four episodes into its second season. being human is a north american adaptation of the u.k. series of the same name. it's based on an absurd premise that actually works: a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost all live in the same apartment. i know, crazy, right? but toby whithouse, who created the original british version, concocted the idea with normal human beings in mind before adding the supernatural aspect at the request of the network he was pitching. the result is a supernatural show that's much more character-driven than most. the syfy version is run by supernatural's jeremy carver, who brings a lot of that show's spirit with him. it's good, and you should give it a try if you aren't watching yet. thumbs up from me. syfy supported its decision to renew the show with a flurry of stats, most notably that season 2 has seen double-digit percentage growth over its first season. but one stat that stood out to me is the gender split: 52 percent of the audience is female, according to syfy, making it the most female-skewing program in the history of the network and making me think it's my feminine side that keeps me tuning in each week.
