this is bullshit.... as someone who lives a three minute walk from their brand
spanking new glasgow headquarters i catagorically state that the digital age has
f**k all to do with the sackings... with the current industrial action in
consideration and the fact that their new advanced facilities allow the same
work to be done by less people, the sacking have been prompted by an ability to
get away with it.

the bbc is a publically funded entity with said funding consistantly on the up
through a yearly increase in licence fee. it's all just a f**king big smokescreen.

doesn't surprise me, aren't these the same folks who rigged a child's contest to
name a new cat character?

not a huge jump....

the beeb are constantly hiring new people, and their number of employees keeps
rising, although 2500 jobs will go im almost sure more than that will be created
too. they only reason we even find out is because its publicly funded

as a resident of the uk, i personally despise the bbc. i have to pay a licence
fee to watch tv, which would be ok if what was on the bbc channels was good.
its not. its crap.reruns of tired old sitcoms, and 'cutting edge' shows like
strictly come dancing.dear god, what did i do in a former life to deserve
this? the joke is, if i choose not to watch the bbc, i still have to pay the
licence fee. its a scam. even if you dont own a tv, the bbc will assume that
you do, and send threatening letters to your house insisting that you pay up
or else!
con merchants, the lot of them. watch channel 5 instead. at least the shows
are more fun

if youve got a tv in your house, the robbing bastards will charge you for a
licence, whether you watch the bbc or not. its that or a court appearence.
no problems about the teenage crack rat who robbed old widow twanky down the
road. he gets a slap on the wrist and a new playstation.
you object about paying for a tv licence and its a hefty fine or prison.

its sucks. badly

one of the reasons i think tv is generally better in britain ( other than darts
and snooker during primetime, at least when i lived there ) is the tv licenses.
no story arcs in service of commercials, more edgy material ( skins,
sinchronicity, talk to her, viva blackpool... ), and more premier names
involved, denis potter, harold pinter, etc.

given that, tv licenses ( like a dog license, once a year, for every single tv )
is definitely a pain. and what is up with the tv detection trucks?

the bbc is just a poor sky/itv with a fixed fee and tons of product placement (
yes it is. every product was a grey can or a unbranded beer before not any more
) . the bbc makes money buy sellig the programmes to other countries. but it
doesn't make these programmes by its self, it just writes the final check. even
the biggest bbc download from here is made by the canadians, the documentaries
usaly have discovery or national geographic logo on the end credits. most
comedies on the bbc are made by private companies.
with the analogue switch of it will no longer be a open signal so after 2012 it
will be a digital tv broadcaster only. each platform allows for encyption so
your licence fee can be tied to a card/viewer no. the change to mpeg4 for hd via
digital platforms will mean a new freeview box ( its not been freeview since
top up tv started want all the channels you have to pay) with another card slot
anyway.

as regards to the tv licence it could be worse, in ireland they have the tv
licence and advertising, at least with the bbc its advert free (well mainly)

i'm afraid a lot of the comments on the bbc here and elswhere are very narrow
minded, mostly judging the bbc on it's tv content. this budget cut is a
disgrace, as it will hit the bbc where it has always excelled - factual and news
content.

do you have any idea of the regard in which the bbc is held worldwide?
especially the news and factual content. the world would look on in horror as
one of the last truly independent sources of news was destroyed because people
bitch about the shows they pay a lot more for on sky aren't on the beeb. do you
ever use the bbc's website? listen to radio 1-4 or five live? the world service?

the website alone is worth the fee ffs.
[#63505] Written by: thejibblies [22/10/2007, 04:01]
i totally agree beardybuck. bbc one may suck hard but bbc four (and sometimes
bbc two), the radio service(including the world service) and the website make it
worth the license fee. additionally the license fee is there so that all of its
services don't need to advertise and so that the the bbc doesn't need to dumb
down its programing. unfortunately it has lost sight of the later and seems to
forgotten it can educate the public instead favouring shows like strictly come
dancing (which it plugs the s*%t out of on its news channel, its not f*&king
news you retards) and f*$k off im ginger. if they wanted to cut something it
should have been bbc3. "the beeb" is good but it could be so much more.

the bbc rock, all this beeb bashing is uncalled for. the licence fee is just
a little over

extremely informative post, thanks fridgist.

i agree that at the moment the bbc is the best channel group on tv (however i
think that there should be a bbc sports channel so programmes don't get
interrupted, and the news doesn't broadcast sports results) -- but having to
have a tv license for something which is *potentially* a tv is rediculous. i
bought a new laptop not too long ago, and as it comes with vista installed by
default, it contains windows media centre, and can be potentially used as a tv
receiving device, so i had to fill out a form by which they would investigate if
i had a tv license or not (which i do, but it's besides the point). the license
and the bbc should be optional for those that don't want it. if you don't pay
the license, you don't get bbc broadcasts, simple as that.
